The wait for Forspoken has suddenly gotten longer: Square Enix has confirmed that its next AAA, developed by Luminous Productions, will arrive on October 11th . The original plan was a release this spring – I mean, we were almost there. The official announcement says that developers need a little more time to refine and optimize the game experience:
“Our vision for this thrilling new intellectual property is to make a game world and a hero that players around the world will want to enjoy for years, and so it’s extremely important for us to get it right.”
Forspoken had been announced during 2020: formally it will fall into the category of open-world action RPGs , but with very parkour-oriented gameplay – in other words, the player will control a decidedly more agile character than a Geralt of Rivia, of a Commander Shepard or an Arthur Morgan exploring on foot. Seeing is believing:
Forspoken will only be available on PS5 and PC. In the latter case, it may not be a Steam exclusive: game-related files have also been spotted on the Microsoft Store . It will be the story of an involuntary heroine:
“Mysteriously transported from New York City, Frey Holland finds herself trapped in the wonderful and cruel land of Athia, with a magical sentient bracelet on her arm. Her cynical new companion, “Cuff”, helps Frey navigate the vast lands of Athia. In search of a way to return home, Frey will fight against monstrous creatures, face the mighty Tantas and uncover secrets that will awaken something much deeper.”
